Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CSA?

In a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, you purchase shares of a farm’s harvest before the season starts at a discounted rate. In return, you receive the freshest fruits and veggies on a weekly basis through the growing season. Our Summer season will start June until mid-October. Our winter season will run from November through March

Is Sandy Hill Farm Organic?

We use organic pest control. Sometimes that means organic spraying of insects and disease and sometimes it just means planting extra planning for a loss of some.

Why does the deposit have to be paid so early?

Your $100 non-refundable deposits go towards the purchase of seed and supplies for the season. Our greenhouse crops are started January 1st. That is well before other farms in the area. Early start means an early harvest! Only a limited number of shares are available. Sign up today!

When are payments due?

Summer CSA: Your early non-refundable $100 deposit holds your share for the next season (limited number available). Half the balance is due by January 31st, and the last half is due March 31st.

Winter CSA: Your balance is due in full anytime before October 15th

How does a CSA benefit me?

The consumer (You) save on locally grown produce. You’re supporting your local community as a whole. By purchasing from a local farm you’re keeping your food dollars in the local economy and reducing the carbon footprint to ship foods across the country. Majority of your produce will be picked just hours before you receive it, making it the freshest you can get!

How much is in each box?

Summer: Enough to feed a family of 4 for a week or 2 vegetarians. We aim for at least $25 value in each box ( total $500+ value). We also offer extra veggies when we have them and herbs all the time, for free!

Winter: $50 in value of fresh greenhouse greens, fresh mushrooms and storage vegetables.

Am I guaranteed to get all the produce I want?

Unfortunately no, we try our best but there can be unforeseen circumstances that limit the amount and types of produce available. These circumstances include disease, seed failure, inclement weather, deer, etc. Despite this Sandy Hill Farm has been very consistent with many wholesale customers including some of your favorite local restaurants.

How do I receive my produce? When is it available?

Option #1: Your share can be picked up weekly at the farm, specific day TBD. Pick ups are one day Monday thru Thursday, 2pm to 8pm. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Option #2: Delivery! We understand your busy schedules. So we offer you free delivery!

Can I do half shares?

Unfortunately at this time we do not offer half shares.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

Fruits and vegetables are perishable. We can deliver to your place of work. If not, a cooler or shaded location are ideal to keep the veggies fresh until you arrive home.

What happens when I go on vacation?

We would be happy to pick up/deliver to a friend, or donate to our local food bank.

What happens on holidays? (4th July, Labor day)

There are still pick ups and deliveries. If you’re not available that day please email us. Deliveries can be delayed due to traffic and unforeseen circumstances.

What if I don't like the produce I am delivered?

The purpose of the exclusion list is for family allergies or just general taste preference. The CSA program is to try new vegetables they may pass up at the grocery store or not be familiar with. If your list is to limited you’ll end up disappointed and not get the value out of the CSA. The farm is at the mercy of mother nature. There is only a limited supply of fruits and vegetables available for each box.
